Erich Schmidt-Kestner is a German sculptor who was born January 15, 1877, Berlin, Germany. Died: October 24, 1941, Nordhausen, Germany...
In 1901 he received for his work the silver medallion of the art, in 1904 even the golden medallion. Still today his former studio in the Offenbacher street in Berlin - Friedenau is an artist's studio.
With the figure it concerns the representation of a big horse. An athletic naked man sits on the horse. On the right of it a naked woman, the left arm lassiv laid on the horse backs, stands. The man bends down and embraces the woman, while he gives her one kiss, the parting kiss. It is an absolutely impressive very expressive work of the artist! Most details are worked out perfectly!
When the Antique Road Show was in the area we went and he gave us a verbal appraisal of $1900.00 to $3800. I asked about the marble base that the corner is broken and he said that it does not affect the value, just put a new marble base on the sculpture.
Overall the condition of the bronze is good, deep brown patina, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including dust. There is minor rubbing to the patina at the high points.
